Sodium benzoate is an acidic preservative with good antiseptic effect in acidic environment. It is a very commonly used food preservative. However, in recent years, concerns about its toxicity have restricted its application. Some countries have stopped the production of sodium benzoate and have restricted its use. The general dosage of sodium benzoate is 0.1 to 0.25g, and the molecular weight is 144 and 11.

In neutral or slightly acidic pharmaceutical preparations, sodium benzoate can be used at a concentration of 0.5%. Sodium benzoate is about 0.34g/100ml at room temperature.
